Studium Języków Obcych PROJECT

Established in November 1991 in Gorzów Wlkp. It is a private language school for children, teenagers and adults, which is registered with the Local Education Authority in Gorzów Wlkp.,and has been allocated number 156.

Run by Krystyna Monach, a graduate of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, who is both, the owner and principal of the school. The school is situated in Gorzów Wlkp. in Western Poland (about 150 km from Berlin), at 7 Ściegiennego Street. It benefits from being close (100-300 metres in distance) to shopping and retails centres namely: Panorama, Castorama, Tesco, Komfort and Kupiec Gorzowski. It is also within easy reach of the city centre (around 5 minutes by car).

Group size

Standard lessons take place in groups of 5-9 people. The school is also able to offer students the possibility of studying in smaller groups of 2,3 or 4 people. In addition, individual lessons (one-to-one) are available on request.

Languages

The school offers both general and specialist tuition in a wide variety of languages namely English, German, Italian, French, Spanish, Russian, Norwegian, Dutch, Japanese and Chinese. Polish language lessons to foreigners are also offered.

Levels

We teach at all levels from beginner to advanced and for all age groups starting from 4 years of age. There are general and professional courses, tailored to suit the individual needs of the student and concentrate on specific areas of language that the student would like to focus on.

There are preparation courses for various international ETS exams these being: TOEFL (English), TOEIC (English), TFI (French), and WiDaF ( German), which are held every month at our school. Exam courses also take place, which prepare students for the Cambridge FCE, CAE and CPE exams in English. After completing these courses the exam can be taken through the British Council.

German language exam courses for the ZD, Goethe- Zertifikat B2, Goethe Zertifikat C1, ZOP and KDS in German are run at our school and the final exam can be taken through the Goethe Institute. There are also preparation courses available for the TELC exams (English and German) and CELI (Italian) as well as for the Polish Matura (High School final examination) and Gimnazjum (Middle School) final examination.

Linguisctic skills

The Studium develops all of the linguistic skills ie. speaking, listening, reading and writing, however most emphasis is placed on speaking and listening comprahension. Therefore, for the first few years of study lessons are conducted by Polish teachers, and then later on students have lessons with Polish and native- speaker teachers alternately.

Programme

The school delivers an intellectually ambitious programme, in accordance with standard international teaching requirements. This is brought about in a friendly and creative atmosphere by highly qualified teachers from Poland and abroad. Student’s progress is regularly checked by testing, and at the end of the school year all students receive language certificates.

Teaching methods

We use the communicative approach for all languages and additionally offer courses using Direct English for English and Piomar House for German. Direct English and Piomar House focus more on developing listening and speaking skills, whereas the communicative approach deals with all the skills.

E-learning is made available to our students free on our website. It allows the students to improve their language skills at their own pace.

Exams

The Studium acts as an Authorised Educational Testing System Exam Centre for intermational exams: TOEIC and TOEFL in English, WiDaF in German and TFI in French. TOEIC exams are held every month at our school. The school also acts as a British Council Partner in the 1st edition of the AddVantage Programme for Institutions.

Our achievements to date high pass rate for international exams and final language exams at public schools, achieving 1st place in the Newsweek ranking for the best language school in Gorzów Wlkp., and producing students who gained leading places in regional language competitions.

Admission to school is by interviews and entry level tests.

Language Certificates

At the end of the school year every student receives a certificate confirming completion of the course, which indicates the level achieved. Our levels are adjusted to standard European levels TELC as described by the Council of Europe: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1,C2.

Facilities

The Studium is well-equiped with methodological aids and audio-visual systems. It has its own English and German Methodology and Literature libraries. Teachers have at their disposal a photocopier, CD-players, laptops,DVD, black and white boards, dictionaries, textbooks, games, boards, etc.

Language school abroad

SJO Project cooperates with many schools in English, Germany and Malta, and sends students abroad who want to practise their language in an authentic context. This option of total immersion is available all year round.
